Patience Reaps Rewards
Went to watch The Lake House with Yin Chieh today. Nice movie and I'll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. The wonderful chemistry between Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock is just amazing and you're just rooting for them to meet in the end. You get to learn about the power of changing history or even creating one through the power of time and the amazing mailbox. The lake house is just beautiful, though I have to agree there's no privacy. There isn't any real climax or anything in the movie, just one pace, so I think it should be perfect for anybody.
Anyway, there's this funny incident that occurred in the ladies. I was in this cubicle beside this auntie. Then I suddenly heard her phone ringing, she picked it up and said "Hello? Arh... Wo zai da bian..." For those who don't understand, the translation: "Hello? Arh... I'm shitting..." I couldn't control my laughter! I mean, you have the right to do your business and answer the call, but did you have to tell it to the other party? Interesting...
Went to SPH News Centre at Toa Payoh to collect my X-men 3 goodies. Got lots of posters, which I don't know is a good thing or not because they are starting to dominate my room! Took bus 59 back straight home, and as I was about to reach my stop, the bus jerked so suddenly that I nearly fell off my seat! Phew! I was like sleeping and I quickly held onto the seat. Meanwhile, some uncle's pots and pans fell with a loud 'clang'. Everyone was like cursing the van that caused the jerk.
Yesterday, we had this GP talk by our GP Head and he told us to speak more English instead. I guess SKY took it literally and used it extensively for the next 4o minutes or so. Discussed about the appropriate use of the language and how we shouldn't scold people in English because it's an universal language. Stayed back with Shi Zhen to watch this GP screening of Gattaca, which stars Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law. Nice movie that revolves around the 'perfect' world, which is perfect for Science and Technology discussion.
Should be starting on my revision this weekend if nothing crops up. After all, all the teachers are giving us homework and tests like nobody's business and my Econs MCQ got only 1/3 of the total score... this is not good. I should be cutting down on my TV watching after Love At 0 deg C ends next week, because I won't be seeing hottie Elvin Ng on the small screen in the next few weeks.
Ciao!Labels: elvin ng, hunks, movies

My Pronounciation SUCKS!
I happened to chance upon this column by this writer who wrote on The Straits Times Saturday edition. It revolved about the topic where this writer learnt good English from TV programmes and not in school. She gave some examples of pronounciation that had me stunned and tongue-tied. Basic words like "three" and "tree" made me realize how useless my tongue was in helping me to pronounce them. Strangely, I could pronounce the "th" in "thatched" and "thwarted" but not in "three". I was heartbroken! My mom said my tongue should lightly touch the roof of my mouth but it just didn't! I went around asking people to pronounce "three" and the S, Y, and Y of SKYY could do it. So did Izzulwan. So did Kian Hong. So did my Mom. So did my sister. Arghh, I feel so terrible! There goes a deejay job...
Anyway, our class didn't win anything for the Sea Sports Carnival. Kind of a disappointment back there at Kallang but I guess it already died down. Heard that Seagull house got champion for the Sea Sports Carnival. I guess that's a good thing since I'm part of it. But then, I think the school shouldn't be so stingy with fruit punch. Oops.
Took our class photos yesterday and I think it was fun, Fun, FUN! Shi Zhen sent a message to everyone, telling them that we'll take the class photo during the second period. During morning assembly, only 12 people turned up. But by the second period, FULL ATTENDANCE!! This is such a rare thing, something like a lunar eclipse, you know? Spent like one period taking them and we were all so tired after that! Our civics tutor was, as usual, posing his signature weird look when we were having informal shots. Like trying to take our back view when we were posing at the front and looking away when we were capturing the shot. The girls were talking about having to use Photoshop to make their faces/butt smaller, eyes/boobs bigger and legs longer. It was just weird to see how many comments they could make of themselves just looking at one picture.
Stayed back for Photography today, the last time, I guess. Had our photo-taking. Going there was irritating because the board stuck a notice which said it start at "2.45pm", and I just bought my rice and was about to eat it when Ziyang called. Had to put it in my bag, which is such a weird and funny thing. Luckily, it was packet form and I hadn't open it. Had to carry it away from me as it was steaming hot and I was just plain hungry. Later, I had to stop people from opening my bag. Very funny.
Anyway, gotta buck up now. One tutor mentioned it was 6 weeks to Prelims and I haven't started anywhere near! Gotta find my inspiration and drive.
Till then...
PS. I think while reading the first paragraph, some of you were trying to pronounce "three" and "tree", right? Haha...Labels: friends

Fresh Skin!
Hmm... changed my blogskin today. Did it myself, with modifications from other blogskins here and there. Very nice, right? At least I think so. Did it, on and off, within 3 days. Included The Lake House poster at the background, and the song playing in the blog in the marquee.
Anyway, had our Sea Sports Carnival today and I shall not mention about it today. Talk about it some other day.
Gotta chiong my GP and Econs now. See ya!Labels: blog-related

Weird Coincidence
It's been a long week. Had to do so much homework all through the night, even though there were no tests this week. In fact, I think my eye bags are getting more prominent than before, as if they weren't big and heavy enough.
Spent $40 of my own money on GP notes yesterday. The GP fund was left with a miserable $5 and when my tutor asked me to collect the worksheets, I was thinking of just being that $5 and maybe just $4 of my own money. Luckily I changed my mind. I was just standing - stunned - by the 20cm thick pile of notes when I told the lady I wanted to collect notes. Then she counted the price and all - ka-ching - $45.90. I think I could have nearly fainted on the spot. At that instant second, I was $40 and a few brain cells poorer.
Well, hockey today was fun. Did lots of funny exercises to train our dexterity, speed and ball control. I think I'm getting quite violent though. I kept hitting my friends' legs, sticks and one of the sticks even dropped on the ground! *gasps* Which really reminded me of floorball, where people just whack for fun. I still miss floorball cos it's such an easy sport to play... no need to rotate the stick with my non-dominant left hand. But I had fun, though sometimes, I'm a little slow.
Physics and Econs lecture for the rest of the day was quite horrible. As my marks were too horrible to get into classes that my friends were in, I had to go there alone - all by myself. Strangely, it was quite a terrible feeling at first. Later, I was wondering, if I could go to the movies myself, why can't I go to the lecture myself?? I guess it must be those greenies in school.
Got back Econs DRCS results. Our tutor only marked case study and my marks were like a fifth of the total. I figured out, in order to pass, I would need like full marks for data response... How encouraging. Anyway, our talented classmate Edris, sketched a very beautiful sketch of Spongebob Sqaurepants and Patrick the Starfish. Asked Shi Zhen to take photos of it as her resolution was better but she told me I might have to wait for months for her to upload it. Well, I guess good things are worth the wait.
Gotta start mugging now. Even though I really want to start on Physics, everytime I turn to Kinematics (the first topic), I'm already so disgusted! No!! I shall persevere!! Prove my bloody civics tutor wrong!! Haha... I think I'm going crazy now, hopefully the spirit stays strong in me!Labels: school

Naked Pandas and A Piece of Post-it
Had our first official lesson of hockey last Thursday. Kinda tiring, considering the months of absence from PE lessons. Still not very used to the hockey stick... kept using it like a floorball stick which is totally wrong. Plus, Mr. Samad simply loves my surname. From the very first lesson till now, he pronounces it like "EIO!! K.... J...", with all the caps and exclamation marks. Even worse, at the end of the lesson when he was giving out duties for next week, he called me "EIO!!" so I could collect the hockey sticks next lesson. Arghh...
Stayed back for Econs DRCS after school. Till 1830hrs. So late, so tired. Didn't know my content and naturally stoned for a few minutes here and there. Think I'm gonna do quite badly for that.
Had Meet-The-Parents session on Saturday. As usual, very few people from my class turned up. This year, I had Shi Zhen for company. Could compare notes on whether any teacher was a tape-recorder (repeat the same thing to each parent-child). Turns out, out civics tutor was the tape recorder. Told us to "climb wall", "climb mountain" and all the talk about "problem solving"... which all pointed to us as bad and lousy students and him - an excellent teacher. *pukes* Ok, maybe I'm a little bad and quite lousy, but he - excellent? Not even a chance.
Saw Econs teacher first because my civics tutor wasn't even at his seat yet - not even his shadow was not there. Talked the longest to my Econs teacher. Proceeded with Math and GP tutors later. Most teachers said I'm rather quiet and I need to speak up more. Maybe I should, but it'll be kind of odd.

Saw Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest on Sunday. Give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was thrilling but not as exciting as the first. Strangely, some parts reminded me of King Kong, especially the part on the cannibal island and the Kraken. Johnny Depp was still as charismatic and I must say there are many surprises in the story. There are even a necklace of toes, the cartwheel sequence and those ugly and scary creatures of the sea on the Flying Dutchman. Watch out for the last part where a character from the first instalment makes a special appearance. Well, the movie ended with a really long commercial break that will last about one year? Not sure if my anticipation will last that long, but as long as it's got to do with pirates, I'm in. "Aye aye Captain"Labels: movies, school

Too Much Kway Teow
Today started just like any other ordinary day. With practically no lessons in the morning ( 2x Civics and 1x free period), we went for our break early. SKY ordered from the noodle stall and Yin Chieh ordered noodles while Shi Zhen and I ordered kway teow. The serving seems larger than normal and we were tired of chewing and picking it up with our chopsticks.
Somehow, for math later, Shi Zhen and I were in giggles for the first period of two. Laughed about liquid paper, guys zipping their fly while I was facing in her direction for a conversation, "outside" versus "laosai", the ripped-off shirt and so much more. We laughed till our backs were shaking terribly, our voices hoarse and all tired out. Even the guys said we were very high. It was one of the most "funny" math lesson I had. Maybe Yin Chieh was right, we simply had "too much kway teow".
By the way, you know people (girls) who are close together get synchronized periods? Well, it's true as I finally got to see it for myself today. I simply can't believe it. Talk about hitting the jackpot. It's precisely this reason that resulted in my missing of Physics lecture today. Really such a pity and shouldn't have done it because my Physics is really very lousy. But if I'm going I would have been 25 minutes late, which would have got me into trouble. My classmates (guys) who were in the same lecture as me didn't bother to copy anything except Vernon who noted down the questions because I made him do it. Haha. But I could still roughly know what was going on because I borrowed today's notes from Joseph, which were only half a page, but at least I made an effort. I'm not going to skip any lectures from now on, the feeling is simply uneasy.
Plus, something happened in the morning that kinda made my day. =))
Oh my goodness, July 11 is a day I'm gonna remember.Labels: friends, school

Midnight Madness
It's been a few days and I've become more lethargic than ever.
Heard the Panorama was a huge success - but, I'm still not interested. After seeing my friends wasting their holidays, time and energy on the bloody thing, I don't see where it's worth. The principal will give a 'speech' tomorrow morning, perfect time to hear some coughing in the microphone.
Finished my GP holiday project early this morning at 0300hrs. Super tired. Wanted to go watch the match between France and Portugal but decided not to or else I wouldn't be coming to school today at all. The bad thing is, my teacher didn't even collect it today! Arghh..
Watched hockey videos for SPE today because of the dark clouds looming over the skies. Either we were too tired or the full thing was a little boring, my friends and I couldn't stop yawning. Except when we saw this mutilated cockroach part on the floor. Eeew. Coincidentally, one of the matches took place in Germany and the teams playing were Germany and Pakistan. My friend was like "Germany's gonna lose"... and they did. Oops.
Received Physics Paper 2 today. Somehow, I've become super-immuned to my results. Unlike one year ago, where my heart really sank to the pits. Now, it's like "Orh-oh..." and I don't feel that huge a disappointment anymore. That's not a good thing. Many in my class got the same score as me, but unfortunately, my friends won't be joining me for the new Physics lecture, where people are divided into their supposed grades. I'm, again, the only girl in my group - like Econs! The weird thing is that we (SKYY) are separated in exactly the same way as we were in Econs. Deja vu, eh?
Think I better start bucking up, cos everywhere I go, people keep telling me "You've only 4 months left." But the thing is, I can never be best friends with Physics... maybe I should settle for just friends?Labels: friends, school

Superman Returns~!
"It's a bird. It's a plane... No, it's SUPERMAN!!!!!"

Went to watch Superman Returns today. Really good movie. Nice visual/sound effects, storyline and acting. Plus, there's Brandon Routh! This 1.91m hottie is the new Superman, with all the muscles and height. Anyway, I love the movie! It was totally mind-blowing. One of the most emotional part was on the "island" where Superman was beaten up by 3 rookies. Damn kryptonite and Lex Luthor. Thankfully, the 3 rookies were crushed to death later. Seeing the man in the red cape was like WOW! For one moment, or many moments in fact, I was like so amazed and full of awe. His actions were really for the benefit of the public and I love Superman Junior aka Jason. So cute! But don't mess with him unless you want a piano to be thrown at you. Seriously, I can't think of what's bad about the movie... so for the moment, it's 5 out of 5 stars for me. Everyone should go watch it because The World Needs Superman.
Met plenty of TPJCians after the movie ended and Izzulwan and I went straight home, avoiding most of them. Thankfully.
Anyway, for semi-finals, I guess most have heard, it's Germany vs Italy and Portugal vs France. Lots of stuff happening for English football - not getting into semi-finals and Beckham stepping down as Captain of the English squad. But anyway, I guess everybody should focus on the game and the teams playing the semi-finals now. No use crying over spilled milk and if you still want to cry, wait for the next World Cup.
Arghh... need to collect the very-unpleasant Photog polo tee tomorrow and I have this very boring GP project which needs to be done by Thursday! I need a holiday! Oh wait, I already have one - on Wednesday! Woohoo!!!Labels: movies, school

Luck versus Karma
Went to watch Just My Luck yesterday. On the way there, I met Ahmad Danial! The self-proclaimed-handsome guy. Haha, did a 10-second catching up before parting. Well, the movie was OK, I guess. The opening credits were one of the most interesting ones I have seen, showcasing the different superstitions and lucky charms known around the world. Give it 3 out of 5 stars. Didn't laugh a lot or out loud. There were quite a bit of advertising for McFly, though I like the band and their songs, I thought it didn't really fit into the movie? I liked the part at the ending, where the departing schedules changed rapidly because luck was exchanged rapidly... it was so fast that the board showed gibberish after a while. One interesting thing happened though. I bought the tickets 2 minutes before the show started, and the ticketeer told me "So far, you're the only one in there". I didn't mind and I was thinking "$8.00 can let you own the whole cinema". Haha, but later this Malay guy came it to watch the movie and spoiled the whole experience. =(
Did nothing much today. Wanted to go out but didn't know where to go. Wanted to switch on PC but didn't know what to do. Wanted to do homework but didn't feel like studying. Wanted to sleep but didn't feel like sleeping. So I just stoned till I felt sleepy. Strangely, during exams I was so tired all the time... but after it, I'm so wide awake! I can almost feel the oxygen rushing in me...
Well, I'm gonna try to do a bit of what I planned to do later and maybe watch the double-image match between England and Portugal. Keep your fingers crossed.Labels: movies
